Q: Can upper back and shoulder blade pain be caused by asthma?

Have had severe pain in left shoulder blade, enough to keep me from sleeping well. I hae noticed a tingling abouve the shoulder blade and when it is really bad I have numbness down my right arm. I also now have upper back pain. I describe it as "feeling my lungs in my back" when I breathe. It is a constant dull pain.

Hi there... It is highly unusual for pain to be associated with asthma, so I find it unlikely that your pain has anything to do with asthma. It is more likely something like pleurisy or even an issue connnected with your heart. It's impossible to say without an examination and medical history. Diagnosis over the Internet is just not possible.

Please call your doctor right away to be evaluated for this pain!

Take care,

Kathi

I am not a doctors so all I can do is tell you what happen to me. I was having upper back and chest pain. It hurt so bad that I could not sleep. Then the pain was getting sharp. Finally my husband said I think it is your asthma. I went to the doctor and it was my asthma. The doctor treated me and it has never got that bad again. As soon as notice all the signs that happen before the upper back pain kicks in, I do a neb treatment. Reply
