Hi Lawrence,
No, I don't believe there are legal generic forms of Advair Diskus available yet, as it has not been on the market long enough for trademark protection to have expired. You may be able to get the individual components (fluticasone/salmeterol) in generic form, but then you would have 2 different inhalers to use each time, which is certainly less convenient.
A recent study also found that people were more likely to take their Advair Diskus as prescribed (and keep their asthma under control) than they were to take 2 different inhalers.
The sad thing is that asthma medications are so unbelievably costly and for those of us without health insurance, the cost can seem prohibitive enough to keep us from taking our medications as we should. And that means our asthma is not as well-controlled as it could be. And that can translate to more asthma attacks, more visits to the ER or doctor and more costs. It can be a vicious circle.
Stay healthy!
Kathi
