Advair does have what is called a black box warning. If you do a search on this site, you'll find more detailed info on that. The reason, though, that the warning was issued was based on one of the drugs in Advair, when used by itself, not in Advair. The drug is Serevent and is what is called a long-acting bronchodilator.

Subsequent studies have shown that the reason why people in the study (who were mostly black males) had a higher risk of death from asthma was mainly because Serevent alone is not an effective treatment for controlling asthma. The newer studies have not shown that there is any increased risk at all from taking Advair.

In any case, doctors always weigh benefits against any risks. So talk with your doctor if you have concerns.

To your health,

Kathi
