Very upset about inhaler ban

I just heard that the FDA is banning the Albuterol inhalers in the US as of Dec 2008. My daughter has severe asthma and her rescue inhaler has often saved her life- not to mention a trip to the hospital. The main reason the FDA is giving is that thia ne inhaler contains CFC, which damages the ozone layer. Instead of targeting car manufactures or even plastic manufactures, they are going to start denying asthmatics their medication.

I've also heard from others that the new inhalers don't work as well. What can I do about this? I'm very upset.

You are right, the FDA is banning old inhalers because of the CFCs, which deplete the ozone layer. Instead, people will soon have to use HFA inhalers.

The biggest complaint I've heard about the new inhalers is that they only puff out medicine, rather than blast it the way the old inhalers do. Our experts say that might not be a problem. In fact, the new inhalers might get medicine deeper into the lungs than the old ones.
