could a fever lead up to my childs asthma attack? my 8 year old son got sick a week and a half ago. it started with a cold coughing and then he got a fever. and it seemed impossible to try an get rid of it. we took him to the dr and they say it is a virul infection going around. ok well there 5 other people in this house aznd not one has gotten sick.

see usually when my sons attack come on he has this deep weezing cough. this could was different though but I could tell his asthma was coming on 5 days ago. but my wife insisted that this was not his asthma and refused to give him his inhaler cause shes afraid that if he not in real need for it he will die if takes it. so what happens is my son suffers for 4 to 5 days until she finally heard the cough... but I would like to avoid these curve balls from now on if i could.. Any info you have would be thankfull

Asthma itself does not cause a fever.  A virus may cause a low grade fever.  A virus may trigger asthma symptoms.  As long as you use your bronchodilator inhaler as instructed by your doctor, it is very safe.  If you sense that your child is having early signs of asthma, it is a good idea to have him use his bronchodilator inhaler. At eight, he should be old enough to tell you if he feels better after using it.   However, if you continue to have concerns, it's always a good idea to contact your doctor.
