University of Iowa researchers have added their voices to growing warnings about Advair, saying that drugs that use salmeterol in combination with an inhaled corticosteroid can make asthma more severe or even fatal. In a letter to the New England Journal of Medicine, the doctors describe two patients who had life-threatening problems related to salmeterol use. Both patients regained control of their asthma when they were switched to a different medication.
