Fungal cells located in synthetic bedding materials may aggravate asthma symptoms, a new study suggests. Researchers say that synthetic filling can contain higher levels of fungi related beta glucan than feather bedding. Researchers at Otaga University in New Zealand looked at 178 samples, including 35 mattresses, 35 duvets, and 73 pillows, and they found that that fungal cells were two to three times greater in the synthetic products than in feather-filled products.
