Researchers say a common class of asthma drugs may increase the risk of autism when given to pregnant women. The class of medications--called beta 2 adrenergic agonist--includes albuterol, Ventolin, and Maxair among others. While the study did not single out any specific medication, scientists found that the use of the class of medications in the late second or third trimester of a woman's pregnancy could increase the risk of autism later in the child's life.
