Two kinds of inhalers raise or reduce death risk in patients with COPD

A review of clinical trials has shown that bronchodilators that contain inhaled beta-agonists like salmeterol (Advair) and albuterol increased the risk of death by nearly twice the rate of placebo in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Another common type of bronchodilator, anticholinergics, reduced the incidence of respiratory-related deaths in COPD patients by 73 percent compared to placebo. Read more »
