A new study has confirmed that women's hormone fluctuations throughout the month may increase levels of airway inflammation and worsen asthma symptoms. But women who take birth control pills may decrease this airway inflammation because the drug works to stabilize women's dramatic hormone shifts. Thus, for women with asthma, this may translate into reduced asthma symptoms, researchers say.
