According to a team of Scottish scientists, medications made from parasitic worms called filarial nematodes may help treat or even prevent conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and asthma. The researchers' findings are based on studies that found exposure to this worm appears to contribute to reduced rates of asthma and RA in developing countries. Also, compounds derived from these parasites has been found to block the processes that cause these conditions.
