During a state of acute anxiety, stress or panic, one of the first noticeable physical changes to take place is the way we breathe. As we become more aroused, the body attempts to draw in more oxygen. This corresponds with an increase in adrenaline and other stress hormones. In some people the situation seems to escalate very rapidly to a point where they may hyperventilate.
