- Nine of the top 10 states have state laws banning tobacco use on school buses and at school-related functions (Maryland is the one exception).
- All of the top 10 states have laws requiring banning tobacco use on school grounds and in school buildings and laws requiring smoking prevention as part of health education.
- All of the top 10 states have laws allowing students to carry their own medication – be it asthma inhalers or epinephrine shots for anaphylaxis.
- Nine of the top 10 states have laws requiring schools to have emergency plans for both asthma attacks and anaphylaxis events. West Virginia is the only top 10 state with neither.
