Asthma drugs get 'precaution' labeling

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has requested that asthma drugs in the leukotriene receptor agonists category be given a "precaution" on the drugs' label. The drugs--which include Singulair, Accolate, and Zyflo--have garnered some complaints from patients regarding psychiatric side effects including insomnia, depression, agitation, and suicidal ideation. Safety reviews into the meds are ongoing, but in the meantime the FDA says patients and doctors should be aware of the risk of neuropsychiatric events associated with the medications.    Read full story >
