Nutrition & Healing

From a newsletter of Nutrtion and Healing -- Dr Paulis met a 9 year-old girl suffering from sever bipolar disorder.  Mainstream treatment involves lithium and anticonvulsive drugs that have many side effects -- nausea, distorted perception and suppression of the immune system.  Lithium can impair the functioning of the central nervous system.  Lithium is sometimes used in natural medicine. Dr. Paulis prescribed 3 grams of fish oil per day to the girl.  Parents reported that the girl exhibited a remarkable change in behavior, dramatic improvements in happiness, anger management, and interest in life. She no longer heard voices.

The effects of fish oil for bipolar disorder have been tested in double-blind placebo-controlled study....Showed that those patients taking fish oil experienced longer periods between symptoms than those taking a placebo.  The study also showed fish oil is very safe--causing only the occasioonal stomach irritation.
