Sue Bergeson
Thursday, December 20, 2007

I have been through the mill and have been in settings that now could help others. I am 48 years old and have about 30 years of Bi-Polar pass to draw from experience.

Learned many things from hospitalizations and now wellness program which I am paying from own pocket and may be helpful to others in need.

I have a listening ear and do not have to force or put my ideas down peoples throat. Just listen and let them answer their wound that is inside.

Thank you for the good information, a lot to absorb.

It seems to me that more efforts in peer advocacy should start at the grass roots level.  Guess it's all about money, and the federal gov't. has to approve funding for new projects such as peer advocacy.

Putting in place a program like Eugene Johnson and Recovery Innovations has done seems like a monumental task, but he has proven that it can be done.  So it's about more than just the money.

I can believe that 44% of Americans have mental health issues.  It's a staggering percentage, but I've seen it up close and personal.

Money is tight everywhere...advocates should be PAID for the hard work that they do.

    Thank you,

    Judy

    Correction:

I MEANT to say that:  I can believe that 44% of Americans THAT SMOKE have mental health issues.  If 44% of Americans has mental health issues, the Federal Government would CERTAINLY be helping our cause more than they currently are.

Thanks for all your hard work this past year.  I would like to see the insurance companies treat mental health illnesses the same as they treat "regular illnesses".  It's expensive to see a psychiatrist or therapist on a regular basis and only 50% of the cost taken care of.  Let alone the cost of our medications, and the insurance companies won't kick in any money towards tranquilizers and the like.  Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!  Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
