Tamoxifen and Lithium???

By Beth Wednesday, January 09, 2008

I am about to start taking Tamoxifen (for breast cancer) and Lithium.  Some information I have read has made me concerned about taking the 2 drugs together.

Does anyone have any experience taking the 2 or know of some real reason not to take the 2 together?

That would be a great question to run by your pdoc and oncologist. It’s a really good idea as well as a must for your safety to let each doctor know what the other is prescribing.

If you end up with a number of doctors what sometimes is a good idea is to get a med manager on board to cross reference the contradictions of each.

Another best kept secrete is to run it by your local pharmacist, mine happens to be smarter than the docs and has no issues of getting on the phone to ask doctors are they trying to kill the patient or just plain stupid. Good luck with your treatments.

Just ran it past my wife and she says she knows of no issues between the two but to still check it out with your doc's...thats what they get the big money for lol.

Thank you.  I'll do as you suggested.  You're right...the pharmacist may be the right place to start--he's not the superstar.
