Does this describe bipolar ? or something else ?

By Bill_Prevno Thursday, August 19, 2010

My girlfriend, ( Elsa)  of almost two years, has two sisters that have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.  Elsa does not have the "highs" that I have read about, but definitely has the lows !!!  Her mood can go to the low side in less than 10 minutes and she will not communicate with me for hours or even days.  ( we do not live together )   Those who know her well know that she can bottle stuff up and not show any emotions.   It seems she takes her moods out on me though.  I have been told she feels "safe" with me and that is why she lets them show.  It is almost Jeckel and Hyde when someone else shows up.   If someone calls on the phone she will chat with them, but will not say a word to me.   I have suggested she may have a mental illness, since it can be genetic, and she was not receptive to that at all.   I guess I am wondering if she is just using her moods against me or if she really has some type of mental health issue.  She has used non-legal drugs to make herself happy but NOT alcohol.   I have tried my best to have her make a Dr. appt. but have not succeeded.  How do I convince her to have this checked out ?

so she is assumed bipolar by guilt of relatability

her sisters have a diagnosis so, because she does not respond to you or responds too much to you in some situations... you think "Bipolar"

and then you wonder why she was not receptive to your suggestion of her going and having that checked?

whether she has a mental illness or she does not, whether she is just picky with whom she expresses her feelings with or she just keeps them all bottled up

there is not anything you can do... not a single solitary thing

she has to go to the psychiatrist and undergo a psych evaluation.. she has to

and if she is not receptive to doing that... then.....

also, if some event happened and she just happened to go and get a psych eval and the doc did diagnose her with say Major Depression, or Generalized Anxiety, or what the hell... Bipolar?

What exactly would YOU DO?
