I saw my psychiatrist this past Tuesday and after him finding out I wacked off the back of my hair, about 5 inches gone, and told him I tried to take too much Xanax he FINALLY agreed with me that I am Bipolar-II. Gotta Love It

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 09:21 AMMy psychiatrist once told me that there were 3 medications out there that made him look like a genius; Prozac, Ritalin, and Lamictal.
After about 9 years of trying most of the antidepressants, I finally went on Lamictal. It is wonderful! It controls both my mania and my depression. I don't mope around, I don't lie on the couch, I don't stay up all night, and I my wife says that I am finally doing tasks she has waited for, and doing them carefully and deliberately.
Anyway, it is a great medication. One small issue, I find I am shorter tempered and crabbier than when I was on Prozac and Wellbutrin.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 03:24 PMAfter finally being diagnosed with Bipolar II after years and years of being told "Your just depressed", my new psychiatrist put me on this medication. I was very skeptical at first but about a month and a half later I feel like a new person. I finally have the motivation I have been lacking for what seems like forever to do things on a day to day basis. Just in the past month I have redone my entire living room which included repainting walls, new flooring, and of course redecorating! I have been wanting to do this for a few years but just could never get off my butt and do it. The only slight 'drawback' I noticed was that I was tossing and turning and waking up a lot at night for the first 2-3 weeks. I don't sleep well to begin with but did notice it was even worse. After a while that did stop and I am back to my normal sleeping pattern. I am at 150mg a day and will step up to 200mg soon which will most likely be my full dose. Give it a try since everyone is of course different but it works great for me!

I have been on lamictal for the past 3 years and feel that it is the best mood stablizer I have tried. I have had no serious manic episodes or deep depressive episodes since starting the lamictal. I have had both episodes but they have been mild.
To get to the theriputic dose it does take a while as you have to start at a low dose and slowly make your way up. The big thing to watch out for is the rash, though it is rare. The worst is it could do is kill you.
I hope this medication works well for you. Good luck
