I saw my psychiatrist this past Tuesday and after him finding out I wacked off the back of my hair, about 5 inches gone, and told him I tried to take too much Xanax he FINALLY agreed with me that I am Bipolar-II. He started me on Lamictal. Wanted to find out if anyone has any stories about using this medication, what your experience is/was. I thought he would be replacing my Nortiriptyline and Celexa but he gave me the Lamtical in addition to these two. I am starting it next weekend, waiting to see how I wake up on Sat and Sun mornings. I was like on cloud 9 when I walked out of the office. I told some of my close friends and they all said the same thing, try a different doctor. I laughed (since they don't understand how few psychiatrists there are these days) and told them I did try that route. What I realized is that I needed to tell my doctor the things he needed to hear so he would give my the medication, even though some of it was a bit of a lie or stretch. I could not believe that I had to resort to that just to get my doctor to see what is really going on with me. I've had a fun weekend, called it my last hurah until I see how the medication works for me. I am a light drinker but I have read that people on Lamictal should not drink at all. I told my husband I wanted this type of medication so badly that I am willing to quit alcohol for the rest of my life. I feel that I will have such a good benefit from the new drug that I won't need to use alcohol as I will not have as many depressive weekends as I have had in the past. Wish me luck.
