Back From Pittsburgh

By John McManamy, Health Guide Tuesday, June 12, 2007
I arrived home from Pittsburgh late Sunday night. I’m brain-dead and fatigued and have a cold and have lost my voice, but a picture tells a thousand words. On Friday, I received the Mogens Schou Award for Public Service, conferred upon me at a gathering of the top bipolar experts in the world. &nb...

You look great !!!

I hope you have some lemon tea and honey. It will help your cold and throat.

Congratulations.

Quite a tribute to your work.

Was it a gigantic upward trigger at the same time as being immensely satisfying?

Many thanks, Nick. I was very aware that an event like this, together with the excitement over several days, could have launched me into hypomania. I did plan for this - built-in breaks, mindfulness, etc. A good friend of mine was also keeping an eye on me. And pre-planned two days of doing nothing when I got home. My cold will turn this into four days of do-nothing time, so my system is definitely telling me to simply take a break and enjoy the glow.

John,

Congratulations! I'm so proud of you. This is much deserved.

Keep up the great work!

Hi, Teri. I really appreciate this. You and I are leading parallel lives: Websites, patient advocacy, journalism, attending conferences, our respective "Living Well" books, and, of course, your 2004 Patient Partners Award from the National Headache Foundation.

So I'm so happy you can share in my joy, as you truly know what I am feeling right now.

No doubt, one day we will meet up on the road at a medical or patients' conference, and I'm looking forward to spending some time with you. All the best
