Question of the Week: Let's Replace the Name Bipolar with Something Else

The term, “bipolar,” implies a static and symmetrical illness where the subject flips back and forth between two sharply contrasting (and “polar” opposite) mood “episodes” or “states” that bear no seeming relation.

 

What's wrong with that? It's totally out of touch with reality, that's what.

 

So, if it were your call, what new name would you give bipolar?
