The realization hits you: You will never have your old life back. Your work, your friends, your relationships, everything - that old life is dead. It’s as if you have lost a husband or wife or son or daughter. Only it’s you - you and your whole world - that you have lost.
This is a genuine grieving situation. We all have to deal with it, typically on our own. No one holds a wake. No one writes a eulogy. Too often, we are left picking up the pieces on our own.
