When It's the Rest of the World That is Crazy, Not You: The BIpolar Question fo the Week

By John McManamy, Health Guide Saturday, February 04, 2012
Do you ever get those feelings that it is the rest of the world that is crazy, not you? Me, too. And the Presidential primary season isn’t helping matters. Let’s start with two simple propositions:   1. Despite increased awareness and understanding and the proliferation of treat...

The only sad thing is that some of us seem to be more senstive to the apparent loopholes of the world - deciet, lack of integrity, acute awareness of disconnectedness, and inability to relate with the superfical side of life that we become afflicted with a disease we dare not utter the name of.

All in my opinion, whether agree or not.. and I have mental illness:

Mental illness on the rise despite the proliferation of so many forms of medication, and treatment, in primarily the developing and industrialized nations... this is a surprise?  Meds taken for x & Y symptoms often bring on - as a side effect - A, B, and C symptoms - which in turn cause more meds to be ingested.  The more meds, the more side effects, the more meds to ease the side effects.. and so on and so on and so on.

Stress produced due to the continuing development and industrialization of your surroundings... the need to be able to handle work, family, mere survival, medical issues... all at the same time AND be good at all.  Then this "me me me" mentality along with "instant gratification", and the near obsessive need to have more and more stuff cause the neighbor's do or your family member's have... and this is a surprise that mental illness is on the rise?

More and more violence... kids rushed through 8 grades into 3... families breaking apart cause mom & dad, or the partners, do not get along anymore... kids, more and more raised by single parent homes - often in poverty... stress stress stress... chaos chaos chaos... pressure pressure pressure... and this is a surprise that mental illness is on the rise?

Third world countries and those very undeveloped (ie., 4th world) have no real recognition of mental illness... every day is only focused on survival to the next day.  Many are not contemplating the world's ills, whether so and so has a X Box and I don't, whether my children are getting the best parental care in comparison to some "pro"'s advisement, whether they made that extra $100 so they can go to the movies, etc...  they are focused on pure unadulterated survival primarily.

They are raised in a constant environment of violence and poverty... of having so much less and still making it each day... many have no clue that life could be better if they had more... they only know what they have from sunup to sundown... they've known no different so they do not expect any different... they do not necessarily want any different.

There is no rise in disability numbers due to mental/behavioral issues.. in those nations, those populations.  If they are fortunate to have a job to bring in money.. or their farms and livestock do well enough to feed their families... they work at it regardless of whether they "feel" like it.  They know that they and perhaps their families (going back to grandparents quite often) are in real need... they aren't considering that the depression that they may feel should cause them to not work... they are concerned with whether they have a roof and/or a meal or their children can get medical treatment when they are sick or injured.

I'm not surprised that those nations, those populations, do not have the same level of mental illness rates as other nations & populations.  Not at all.  In addition, those countries/nations... the ability to obtain, much less take, Seroquel or Risperdal or Wellbutrin is often slim for much of the general population.

The "me me me" nations vs. "the let's do what we have to in order to survive... dodge the warfare, or the next tribe or religion is going to bomb us tomorrow" nations... nope, no surprise at all.

Hey, Tabby. Real good breakdown. :)

I realized it's the world that is crazy when my government tried to convince us that it is the wealthy that supports everyone else in the country.  While some hard working upper class people may.  This country is ran by corporations that give nothing back.  It's just crazy! The average person doesn't stand a chance!

I have noticed a central mentality among people with bipolar. The world is crazy! We were never designed to mentally handle the modern world as it is! Computers, phones- all of which cause electromagnetic chaos via the earth's magnetic fields! I've noticed most of us "loonies" understand this and "they" do not-ha. We're normal, they're crazy! OR....or- "The whole world is bipolar; I (we) just got caught!"
