Also enjoyed the rundown on the NAMI event.
Thanks for plugging Pete's book. It's a must read for anyone involved in mental health advocacy.
May I post an announcement for his speaking engagement?

Monday, October 22, 2007 at 04:52 PMHi, S. Many thanks for your concern. We have some serious fires in the area, and it has been touch and go re evacuation all day. The power and phone just came back on, which I am interpreting as a good sign. Thoughts and prayers to those in the fire zones. Will keep you updated, power permitting ...

I was curious about a comment you made in this post. It was somewhat buried in your descriptions of your meetings with people, but it didn't really sit well with me. You said, "We may be the ones with mental illness, but our families are the ones who suffer from it."
Did you really mean that the way it came out? I know that my family does suffer from the effects of my mental illness, but I can't say that I *don't* suffer from it. I do. And I do in ways that my family could never understand or appreciate. And I mean this in no way to undermine the difficulties presented to my family. I just don't see any benefit in presenting the mentally ill person as somehow not suffering.
