    I may handle it differently then others but I waited until my son was out of the hospital to confront him about his behaviors.  When he's in a rage or unstable is not the time to do it.  We were lucky in that they were able to stabilize him pretty quickly and he stopped raging against us completely.  When I told him his behavior hurt my feelings, he was feeling ok and not angry.  He did apologize and told me he loved me.
