Life is Busy!!

By Tambrey Monday, March 03, 2008

Well, between DS working...not working...looking for work...wanting to stay home and sleep all day and play all night...I get tired trying to get him back on track, not to mention all of the things I have going on in my own life!

Let's see...a bit about what I have been doing...my latest "passion" is the new website I am a founding moderator on...this came about because my tried and true http://schwablearning.org forums and archives were "bought out" by another site, which upset a BUNCH of parents VERY much...so some of us struck out on our own!

One wonderful lady, a school psychologist in Virginia, offered space on her site, and her husband set up the basis phpbb program...I have basically done all the forum setting up and working on finding information and bringing it in... bit by bit, little by little and day by day we are getting there....

We want to be a site where parents who have kids with learning disabilities, emotional and mental challenges (and many times these all intermingle) can come and get the help they need for their kids to be successful in school and life!

We are parents helping parents...with a few experts thrown in to offer for free, their advice and expertise!

Please feel free to come check out the site, and join us if you feel the desire, at http://schoolpsychologistfiles.com/forum

I also am a part time Assistant Director at our local library....this is a job which I could really like, but there are days I just really wish I did not have to go in...but then, work is like that...it puts food on our table, and taht is about all it does, receiving minimum wage pay and working only 16-20 hours a week....

The job that I LOVE and would LOVE to do more than on occassion is teaching!!! This semester I am adjuncting two classes....greenhouse management and Landscape Design Techniques...If the full time instructor ever is able and allowed to build up her curriculum and put more online, she will be needing at least 1/2-2/3 time help and it will be ME...this job pays me VERY well...I actually teach 8 hours a week, plus prep time and grading etc...and I am bringing home over $900 a month for maybe 15 hours a week of actual FUN work!

If this ever takes off to even half time, like I am doing now, I would quit my library job in a heartbeat!

Also along the same lines, our school received a grant to work with the Department of Labor developing RLOs...Reusable Learning Objects...to teach people basic skills, and they need developers/authors...I have been chosen as one of the authors and will be writing storyboards for MANY different areas to help people succeed in life...

So even though none of these is a full time job, or even really full part time...all together they add up to ALOT of time spent doing other things than "taking care of my family" and this bothers me....but on the flipside...it is also forcing the guys to learn to do more on their own...supper...laundry and so forth...

At first I worried about taking on so much, but if it is only for a few months and will get us financially out of the red, a little bit...into the pink or gray at least...and in the process my son learns to fend for himself a bit more...then I guess it is worth it all
