Talked with the doctor.

Hi everyone!

I posted a question a few weeks ago about if I really had bipolar or not. I asked my psychiatrist about why she thinks I have bipolar. She told me that I have mixed episodes, which after she explained it to me, it makes a lot of sense. She said even though I get depressed, I am agitated and have sever mood swings along with really bad racing thoughts and I sleep maybe an hour at night if that. She also said most people with bipolar can not take anti-depressants, and that's me. I feel better having this information. Thank you everyone for listening.

That was our problem with diagnosing my son.  His manic wasn't really manic.  He was gripey and hard to deal with.

To hopeful mom,

What type of medication is your son on? Is it working? I'm still trying to find the right medication that is going to work for me. I have tried Lamictal, but I got the rash, so I can't take that anymore. I've tried seroquel, and risperidol, neither of them worked. I'm now on Geodon. I have not seen much of a difference yet, it's been five weeks since I've started taking it. Talk to you soon.

He's on Celexa, Lamictal, and Strattera (he has add too poor baby).  I would think if you haven't had improvement in 5 weeks, it might be time for another adjustment.

Lamictal has been perfect for him.  It keeps him so nice and even.  I'm sorry you couldn't take it.  Hopefully they can find a combo that works well for you soon.

My partner takes paxetine for his depression and apparently that is one antidepressant which doesn't push towards mania. It might take a while to find the right one or ones at the right dose. Hang in there.

Hi Shellie,

Congrats on taking the first big step in your recovery. There is a sense of relief when what our doctors say actually make sense. Anti-depressants are commonly used with us and are effective when used in conjunction to a good mood stabilizer. Now that your pdoc has you tagged, finding the med combo that works specifically for you will began.

You also need to have a understanding that medications effect each one of us differently. What may work well for me could be a total flop on your end. Keep an open and honest dialog with your pdoc and getting the right combo will happen sooner than later. Good luck and congrats on being responsible for getting better.

Hey Eric, thank you for the words of encouragement. So far every antidepressants I have been on has made me very suicidal, and that's almost everyone. I am currently taking geodon. It is a sense of relief to finally know exactly what I'm diagnosed with. Thank you very much.
