My son is on Geodon and has the same problem. It helps a lot with his attention span and his sleeplessness, but about 20-60 minutes after taking it, he has to take a nap. I'm talking sleeping through class or missing karate because he fell asleep on the ride there. He takes 20mg at 7am, 20 at noon, and 40 at about 8pm. What has worked fairly well is having him eat before he takes it and drinking a cup of coffee with each daytime dose. His teachers said he was like a different child after we started with the coffee! The thing it didn't effect was his violence, so we started him on lithium a couple of weeks ago, and the amazing thing is that it's counteracting most of the sleepiness from the Geodon. So, my input is...yes, it's probably from the  Geodon, but you can find ways around the sleepies without giving up on a med that is helping.

How old is your son?  He is (was) taking the same amount of Geodon as me, but I take 40mg am and pm, not 3 doses.

 

My doc has made a point of telling me to eat before I take it, and I always have had a diet pepsi every morning, even before the Geodon.

 

Maybe I'm not eating enough with it in the morning; I only eat a bowl of cereal.

 

Also, I think when I drink lots of water throught the day it helps...

 

Good to know it's not just me!

My son is 12. The usual dosing of Geodon is 1mg/lb, so I'm surprised that your doc has you at such a low dose. Unless you're 80 lbs too, I suppose. :)  As of my last post, my son's rages are continuing and seeming to escalate, so I've tripled his lithium and we'll see how that goes. I'll tell you, though, he's probably been on 10 meds now and I'm tired of playing Russian Roulette.
