Child Psychiatrist

By Ann Yoxtheimer Sunday, April 17, 2011

I live in South Carolina, and it seems there is a severe shortage of really good child psychiatrists in my area. I read all of these articles about children receiving this medicine, or that treatment, and my child's doctors keep telling me that they don't have any other medicines they can give him. Meanwhile, he's getting progressively more aggressive and scary.

If anyone knows of any good psychiatrists in the South Carolina lowcountry, I'd sure like to hear from them.

so, to clarify

your child has been diagnosed, at a young age, with Bipolar

he is aggressive, rageful, and everyone at home does as he wishes in order to keep him happy & calm at the sake of their own needs or happiness (the eggshell reference)

and the doctors that you've taken him to have all said that there are just no more medicines to prescribe him...

so... are you saying that currently your son is on NO medication whatsoever from any prescribing provider?

No, he is on 3 medicines currently, but they are not completely effective. I wanted to try something new for him (as he is still out of control), but the doctor said that we could take him off of the medicine he's on, but he had nothing to replace it with.

He' on Depakote, Abilify, and Tenex.

I was just confused cause for adults with Bipolar, there is a plethora of medications and medication combinations.

If certain meds do not work, they tend to exchange out with other meds, etc...

So, when you mentioned that the doc said there were no meds... I thought perhaps your child was on no meds at the moment.
