OMG!! there are so many things that can go wrong with a biploar person and their meds. In my opion adding pot to the mix is just asking for trouble.First unless you have some crazy script for it , It's illegal, Second you can't even begin to breakdown everything that's in it.(gonna ask your dealer if it's pure?).I'm sure that as a bipolar person your wife has had it drilled in to her that- We have to watch EVERYTHING that we take tht can alter or change your meds in any way.A few thing to try to avoid ,caffine nicotine, alchol, street drugs, a big amount of over the counter drugs. I'm not saying that most of haven't tried to regulate our moods with a little something as some point ,but we all know it's a bad idea
There is a therapeutic value in pot that does tend to settle down the anxiety that is usually the driving force that kicks us into high or low gear. I used to use alcohol as a way to control the symptoms, but with both...its a quick fix and usually has worse consequences.
I would suggest that she be totally honest with her dr. about the use of pot and how she is feeling before-during and after. I am willing to bet he or she can adjust her meds accordingly to gain the same effects just longer.
hello,i was very interested to read your page,i have been a caregiver to a person with bi-polar for 8 years,i have never once given her a sedative because she was deperessed,i know it is hard, you should be given a pat on the back,i can only say that try to find the real problem as to why she is getting depressed not using a cover up drug,it could be valium, valpro etc,but the depression is still going to be there, after what i have been through i can say from experience this is a band aid fix, please take some advice and get to the depressed problem,if we all smoked pot when we were depressed nearly the whole population would have smoked it,but keep up the good work, cheers
I have just been diagnosed with BP and it's a little more than just a depression as one poster suggests. Its not just the depression or the elation, its the Roller Coaster from Hell of emotions that's ridden inbetween. I started pot four years ago to help control my moods. I am still using it as my choice of medicine illegal or not. I did a lot of research for pain management and learned about this as well. There is a ton of info out there and I strongly recommend you check it out and then make an informed opinion. I have a quality of life now and am an active member of this community. For me, pot gave me freedom and one I'm willing to fight for.
ya, me too. I took ther meds sence i was 16, i got 7 felonys, 12 years prision, 34 hospital stays two eeks our more, 13 totalled cars. phyc profile from federal government states the relatoinship of problems with the law and bipolor. " bi-polor 2, directly related to legal problems." i'v not drank, done any other drugs gone to jail our hospital sence 1998. I smoke dayly use diffrent strains for difrent simptoms. works for me, side effect, dont get caught by the man, dont i repete dont run out. if you use this for self medicatio going off abruptly is the problem you will go nut end up in the er giving them more evedence pot dont work. I prommis these people arnt going in to er when they are high. who would do that, all of them i saw were out our stoped. other side effect red eyes peice tranqulity, ect thats it man might develop a smokers coulf thats the worst bro enjoy.
In my life experiences with bp and pot...I have known a few with bp to self-medicate with the green. I used to. It helped me sleep when I was hypomanic or depressed. From everything I have seen, pot is just a quick fix, like how someone drinks caffeine to wake up. It kinda works but still does not make you feel rested or give you the benefits of being rested. I am all for recreational drug use but self-medicating is a nasty game. As for medicinal marijuana, all I have seen is people who become so dependent on pot that they neglect their medications and let their lives revolve around getting stoned. I have also seen pot get used as a replacement addiction for harder drugs, eating disorders, and self-mutilation (all in people with bp).
This does not directly answer your question about side effects involving drug interactions. I am not a doctor so I can not give you specifics on that though I know my doctor could give you a lecture similar to the ones that she has given me on how getting high is a bad idea. But I thought it might be of interest to you to hear about the possible consequences beyond drug interactions. I hope you and your wife can find some peace.
Cmefly05 is rite on with that response, i couldnt said it better. Pot is a quick fix and it wears off quick, no matter how good the strain your life will revolve around it 24-7. and its illegal in most places. Todays pot is tasty and potent but it will never give you an almost complete relief like todays Meds can. It will counteract with alot todays meds as well, making you worse off. been there.
