New doctor, new diagnosis

By rich Monday, January 07, 2008
Wow that was a suprise, new doctor and a new diagnosis. She was taking 400 mg of morphine to control pain, but now, its down to 60 mg a day. Dr. says thats what caused the inappropriate behavior.  Hes got her on citalopram. No changes yet, but the lithium works good. 300mg twice a day. Plan on reducing the ms contin down to 30mg this month. Hope to get her off in a few months. But will wait and see. Her temperment is much better, no more rages and ups and downs. Wish everyone good luck.

That is good news.  Yeah sometimes it takes a couple of tries before you get a doctor you really feel knows what he is doing.

400 mg of morphine????  The only time I have ever heard of that size dose is with cancer patients to make them comfortable towards the end. On that dosage you are actually dealing with a totally different person with a whole new personality aka drug addict.

See what this doctor thinks about Neurontin for pain management. I was involved in a mining accident that left me with spinal fusion, total reconstruction of my right shoulder and 4 blow discs in my lower back. I had become a drug addict (prescription meds) with taking highly addictive pain medications. Thankfully I finally found a doctor that could help control the pain without the addictive meds.

Rich, you must have been put through pure hell and my hat goes off to you for sticking it out. My best advice is to take care of yourself and see if she can be weaned off all the addictive meds.

Good point Eric. Thanks for the info. After 18 years, I'm sure they have better pain meds, and the doctors are'nt always up to speed on whats out there. But thanks a million for the info on the pain med.
