I'm really annoyed. I've been looking online and everybody is saying that bipolar 2 isnt as bad as bipolar 1. Considering everything I've been thru this really pisses me off.

I know what you mean about it pissing you off.
I was dignosed 3 years ago now with bp 2 and the first thing that the pdoc told me was don't worry it is not as bad as bp 1. Like that was a really big help.
They are different but in my opionion they are both bad and both can make your life a living hell.
So i would say although they are different, they are still as bad as each other just in different ways.
But thats just my opinion.
I can relate!! I know how I feel when ones tell me that "other similar ailments" are worse than having fibromyalgia. you know the old saying, " walk a mile in my shoes"? No one knows better but us how we feel, especially
since we are all differant both physically and mentally, how we deal and respond are also differant.
Hang in there little girl

This is what I think of BP 1 vs BP 2 and whatnot. Really, my thought and opinion on it all. Just that, opinion.
BP 1 gets the dysfunctioning manias that are typically short lived and then drop into a death defying spiral into long depressions. BP 1 also, for some, have the psychosis attributes.
That being said... you can have psychotic depression.
BP 2 has longer and more pervasive depression and shorter lived, mostly agitated and hyped up hypomania.
In that the depressive episodes are what triggers the suicides and suicide is a frightening reality with those who have Bipolar AND suicidal depressions are as disabling and dysfunctioning as any mania... BP 2 is equally as severe as BP 1. It's just that it does not have the "rep" as BP 1 has.
BP 1 used to be only what Bipolar was. It's only been recently that BP 2 and the other versions were deciphered and designated as forms of the disorder. For many many many years BP 1 was what everyone in the psychiatric community considered as pure Bipolar... unfortunately, many in that profession still do.
I have BP I because I've had 3 manic episodes with 2 landing me hospitalized (I have had other hospitalizations but for depression). I also have psychotic symptoms when in a severe state (ie., dissassociating, depersonalization, auditory and visual hallucinations). HOWEVER... I struggle more and in more danger of harming myself.. with the prolonged suicidal depressions. So, the psychs list me primarily as BP II.
If you have BP 2 then you are struggling with a serious and often severe form of the disorder. It really should not matter whether anyone is 1, 2, cyclothymic, NOS, or anything else... we all share the same insidious disorder and we all share - in some form or fashion - the same symptoms.
We are individuals with a individualized design of the disorder but we all struggle in our own ways. No one is more than the other. When we start separating ourselves into the classes, then we are no better than the "normies" who, with their stigma and prejudice, wish to separate us from society.
Well said, Tabby!
Thanks so much, Tabby. You are right. I shouldnt take what others say so personally.
