Trading the shackles of Seroquel(xr) for Risperdal

By Purple Flamingo Saturday, February 27, 2010

My doc and I are now playing William Tell... shooting in the dark, and hoping something works out.  Doc traded out my 300mg Seroquel for a single mg of Risperdal and a bit of Benedryl to boot.  It was an immediate transfer; no weaning.  Just a hop over the old picket fence.

Last night was my first night with Risperdal.  Rough night.

The Benny finally put me to sleep two hours after my dose time.  I was asleep for approximately two hours before I woke up on fire.  Well, not actual fire.  My entire body was radiating heat.  The fan felt so cold, but my husband held me steadfast.  I had to drink a huge glass of ice water just to get to a tolerable temperature.  For the rest of the night I tossed and turned.  I could feel my body heavy and motionless, but I couldn't get the rest.

Regardless how much (or little) I slept, I got up at ten this morning.

No, you don't understand.  For the last month, I've slept through the day and night.  Up at two in the afternoon, six in the evening, seven at night.

I actually got up at 10:00am.  AND I woke up my kids.  AND we ate together.  AND I even went outside when the kids took the dog for dash.  I was learning an important lesson; stay out of the sun, you are overheating again.

I haven't felt tired all day.  I haven't felt the dying thirst that Seroquel gave me.  But I am still sticking with water.  Whether Risperdal will be my saving grace or not, things don't seem so bad so far.  I should point out that my angry flashes still showed up today.  Still strong, still fast, and over in a few minutes.  Other than that, we all had a good day today.

So far, so good.  Day one down, second night resting with Risperdal.  I'll be sure to let you know.

Ouch...Risperdal's Lesson Learned

wow, so happy for you that you got some relief!

I  bet your kids were glad to have their mom back in somewhat 'normal' form.

Good Luck on your journey...
