I am a person who has lived with bi-polar illness and PTSD for over 40 years.

I have seen many abuses in my early years in the mental health system. Fortunately, I see many great advances in research, plus in professionals treating those of us who are suffering.

My passion now is working on helping to develop mental health advance directives.

My last hospitalization, I was too sick to sign papers to allow my husband to have information. The directive I signed will give my husband the info he needs to contact me.  This directive describes previous treatment that have worked, plus meds I have had bad reactions to. I am interested to hear from people about what your thoughts are in this area? I want to emphasive that we who have written and signed our directive can designate those to whom we do not want to know where we are. I know how important this is to those of us who have been abused.
