Ask Dr. Haupt: Custody Issues and Mixed Mania States

I am new to this website. I am currently working on a research paper on Bipolar Disorder. I also suffer from this illness, as well as my son. On this topic I pose an interesting question. My boyfriend has four children; all with mental health issues and a toxic mother. The children have expressed wanting to live with us. This woman is extremely vindictive, and I am afraid she will pull me into her black hole of chaos because of the illness. I live on disability right now, so I have the government in my back pocket. Right now, I just want to run out of this relationship to protect myself and my son, because I find the situation too close for comfort. Do you have any advice for me? Anyone? I feel really desperate right now, and have a great deal of stressors that I am trying to cope with the best I can. I will address my other stressors later. I have printed a great deal of marvelous information, and I love this site. I don't get heard much around here, and I am never taken very seriously.

Comment to the comment. Wow. I hope you are ok by the time I have written this. I also have bipolar II. It is funny how we are drawn to men with more complicated problems than our own. My advice is get out of the relationship to protect yourself and your son and sequester yourself from romantic relationships for a while to make sure you are stable. Even if it takes years. I mean that is what I would do, and DID DO, having been there done that.

why don't you lock them all up and throw away the key after all they are just irresponsible

My ex is biopolar and mood disorder. I thing he is un able to care of my two kids anymore.He is useing street drugs and sleeps a the time.He has other drug users come and clean the house.how can I get the courts to givr me cusduty what shell I suggest the court do and also he is on a SSI for his mental disorder.Please give me some information as soon as possibleI believe the kids are unsafe and they are not getting the emotioal support need in thier lifes He also has his mother handle his money because he is un capable of that two. But his mother lies for him and says he can do it but he do not feel like it so she handle all the finaces .Help what should I file and can I get the court to get his mental records to show he is unstable Help they are not safe!!!
