Julie,

I was only recently diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and was prescribed 40 mg of Geodon.  I took my first dose last week and called my doctor.  I became unable to walk or talk and slept for 10 hours before I was able to function again.  Bear in mind, however, that everyone reacts differently to different meds.  I am now hesitant to start the next med, which is Seroquel at 50 mg.

I am told that trial and error is the only way to find the correct medication of each of us.

It may work for you.  The worst that can happen is that you sleep it off like I did and go on to the next medication.

I, like you am scared to take these strong medications, but don't have much choice.

Good luck to you and I hope Geodon is the right med for you.

Haven't hear very good results from Geodon.....just talking down here on Long Island near Hillside Hospital, LIJ Northshore Health System.  They haven't had too much sucess with Geodon. Heard they had a lot of success with lamictal.  However, I was presribed that...it was the worst trip I have ever been on.  Canned that and went back to

Effexor 75 mg. s.r. 3 x day, Ativan, 3mgs. a day and added a bit of seroquel, ten mg. in the am and ten mg. in the pm.  Feeling a whole lot better, actually feeling pretty darn good.

Wish you all good things.  Know how you feel, relate that to your doctor and be persistent in relating to your doctor how you feel and asking about other alternatives.!!  Know when to hold em, know when to fold em.  Know thyself!

I also hasd a very bad reaction to Geodon.  I was so dizzy I had to lie down on the kitchen floor while trying to make coffee.

It also made me EXTREMELY tired.  I fell asleep while driving & luckily I woke up when I heard my wheels hitting the gravel shoulder of the road.  Was on it only about 4 days.

I was on Geodon for one month and it was not a good month. I was so restless and agitated, it was like the inside of my skin was crawling. Not good for someone who is in the mania stage of Bi-Polar. I was also very very tired. Some have had great success with this drug, but the side effects were just too much for me to handle with day to day living

I have now switched to Lamictal and am hoping for better results with less side effects.

Good luck-

Marianne

For me, Geodon has helped amazingly.  I have severe lupus and have been very depressed.  I am not bipolar; however, I have also started the changes, so a combo of 20mg Geodon and 50 of Zoloft has helped me with yet another condition - PMS dysphoria.  It helps me to get up on time, not all tired and in pain, and while I get a little tired during the day, I ALWAYS felt that anyway.  Stay at the lowest dose you can, and I think you will feel better.  Everyone thinks this drug means you are like totally crazy, but it helps a variety of medical conditions.

Yes people think you are crazy when you take it but i love it it has helped me tremendously. i take 80mg at night and 20 in the a.m.. I really works well for me just started taking the morning one so we will see how tired i get throughout the day may have to take it all at night. thanks again for your post.

since the first day to tthe last day (3 days later) Geodon made me tired as hell.  I couldn't get enough sleep - that is, of course, when it would let me sleep.  I was always so tired, but sleeping wasn't an option, but when I DID sleep - it would be for like 15+ hours and I'd still wake up feeling tired all day.  I take/took 40mg in morning and 80mg's at night.  I stopped the 80mg, but still had the same effect with the 40,g's.  Don't like it.

Hi.  I was diagnosed with depression; but the prozac really wasn't doing anything.  I still felt crappy.  Then I accidently took my daughter's Geodon (80mg) it knocked me on my behind - I had to go to bed.  But two days after the incident, I felt great.  So I narrowed it down to the Geodon.  I have been dividing up the kids' samples (they have their own medications) so that I can stay on Geodon.  It averages about 20 mg. a day.   I don't have an appointment with the doctor until March.  I wrote her a letter to tell her what I'm doing; but I haven't heard anything back from  her, so I guess I'm okay.

I love Geodon.  I feel whole again.  I was walking around like something was missing - I slept all the time, it was hard just to do dishes; nothing in the present or future looked promising to me.  Now, I'm outside putting up a privacy fence.  I have order in my life again.

I hope Geodon will work for you.
