Hello everyone....have been out of touch with BPC for about 5 months for no good reason.  Popped in today and did a little reading...I realized how much I've missed hanging out here.  I have always enjoyed reading your posts and insightful comments.  It's a good place to get things off your chest and to share and get to know others with our illness.

Expect I will be responding to some of your posts - it's always rewarding to get responses.

The main reason for writing concerns my meds.  My husband is retiring, our insurance is changing (for the worse).  Insurance will only pay for 3 months of meds (there's a formula).  After that I will have to pay out of pocket for the remainder of the year.  This will amount to approximately $800.00 per month.  My family is not wealthy, we above the poverty level and won't qualify for  assistance, as far as I know.  But we certainly cannot afford the $800 each month.

The only resource I can think of is to convince my doctor to eliminate the expensive drugs.  I am doing very well on a mix of lithium, lamictal and abilify and have been for about a year.  Abilify and lamictal are both very expensive drugs.  Hate to play with fire, but the alternatives are slim to none.  If any of you have experienced this problem or have any suggestions, I would welcome your input.

I have also considered writing a letter to the pharmaceuticals to see if they can help.  Doubt it.

It's a real dilemma - if I have to, I will discontinue some of the meds on my own.  I see my psych doctor next month, perhaps he will have some suggestions.  Thank you for reading my post.  I wish you all well.

Judy
