newly diagnosed and feeling crazy

By diy78 Sunday, February 27, 2011

I am newly diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I am freaking out alot. I am currently taking abilify and ambien for insomnia on top of the BP I was diagnosed with obsessive compulsive personality disorder. I have struggled with this up and down nightmare all my life I am 33 this week I have been married to the most wonderful and supportive man for 13 years. I have two beautiful boys 10 who has a learning disability and 12 who has tourettes. I feel like my life has been someone flipping the channels over and over again and never being settled with who I am (still dont know that answer) I am currently in counseling but its hard it seems unless you have a chemical dependency they dont really talk much about what I struggle with on a daily basis. just frustrated and tired of being this way. I was just hoping to find some people who have similar troubles to talk to.

You are not alone. Looking back on my life, I'm 59, diagnosed BP1 at 50, I don't know who I really am either. I've had great successes in my life which in retrospect may not have been the real me, but mostly suffer from recurrent depression, which isn't the real me either. The best you can do is stick with your meds and talk to your therapist about what you need and are NOT getting from therapy. Read as much as you can about the disorder. And stick with this site every day. There are lots of people who share this disorder and are here to help.

I appreciate your post I really feel lost in a house full of 6 people. It is really hard to focus sometimes on my daily activities and how to cope with the stress. I just wanted to say thanks.

When you get stressed out, try to do something for yourself that you like. Leave the house. Take a walk alone. Try to quiet your mind. Some people say meditation helps.

My family thinks I have way to much energy technically I dont due to my insomnia but I cant just sit and do nothing I like to cook and scrapbook and DIY projects, also I clean like nobodys business and organize like a crazy person.
