Newsweek Proclaims "Antidepressants Don't Work"

By Marcia Purse, Health Guide Wednesday, February 24, 2010
Newsweek's front cover screamed on its February 10, 2010 issue: Antidepressants Don't Work. Writer Sharon Begley is referring to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association last month. The study actually found that for patients with mild to moderate depression, placebos - the...

ADs are one, if not, the most prescribed class of medications in this country.

They are prescribed, much like the atypical anti-psychotics and anti-epileptics, for just about anything now it all seems - in my opinion.

I have yet, in many years of taking many many many many many many different ADs and different classes of ADs found one that I could either tolerate the effects of... actually made some marked improvement in my symptoms... did not send me soaring into the stratosphere... did not send me crashing onto the suicidal floorboards... or just stopped in mid-air and dropped me suddenly.

I've suffered mild-moderate depressive episodes and I've suffered many more severe to critical bipolar depressions.  I've not had luck with any thus far.

While some may have some relief and for those, then by all means do what is necessary.. this tabby cat, just won't take anymore.  They've done not one thing better for me.

I have also tried AD after AD and have yet to find one that makes a significant difference in my depression.  I don't enjoy anything....it's like I just "exist".  I have been lucky in that I have not had any side effects to the meds.  But I just want to find something to get rid of my depression.  I know that doctors sometimes use other drugs to treat severe depression.  Does anyone have a suggestion as to a drug (not an anti-depressant) that has helped their depression?  I am constantly tired also-I would never leave the bed if I could.  I should also mention that I recovered from a prescription pain pill addiction about a year ago, so I'm thinking that is adding to the depression somewhat.  I just want to feel "normal" again, whatever that is...I just want to be happy at least 50% of the time.
