I have Bipolar II. A lot of people think of this as "less severe" than Bipolar I, and in some ways, it is. We don't have hallucinations. I don't hear voices telling me I'm a terrible person; I don't see non-existent people sitting on my balcony railing. And we don't have delusions. I'm not convinced ...

Hi there Marcia

I think there is a lot of confusion about the various diagnoses and it really helps for someone to talk about their personal experience....you get a better portrait of what is going on as opposed to a list of symptoms.  I just wrote an article this month about actress Catherine Zeta-Jones and she has this type of Bipolar disorder.  May I ask...was it difficult to get a diagnosis?

I am greatly looking forward to reading more of your posts...

Just wondering if your medication is optimal?? or am I just lucky with my bipolar I?   I was on a lot of meds and gradually gradually weaned off to just Seroquel and Lamictal.  And the psychiatrist says maybe I can go off the Lamictal.  I also have no thyroid due to a thyroidectomy to remove goiter.  Turned out to be a slow growing form of thyroid cancer.

My doctor really is on the cutting edge of pharmacy and very pharmaceutically patient.....I haven't had  many bad days for months and years.  And I was really really sick in 1995. Hospitalized for six weeks and off work for almost a year. I  had to go off Lithium after 12 years.  it was affecting my kidney function maybe.  I am in the lower normal for kidney function. I work on call make 440 dollars a day when i work. I am in my mid 60's, haven't been hospitalized for 16 years.
