Dealing with school districts over the best placement for a young person with a mental illness can be exhausting.  Compulsory school attendance laws can be met by removing a child from school (permanently or for a period of time) and tailoring the details of their recovery to their exact needs.  Programs are great, school special needs programs are free, but you have the most power and most freedom to create a healthy recovery by homeschooling your own child.  I have homeschooled my children for over 20 years now and love the flexibility and ability to make the education fit the child.
