My teenagers

My daughter and I have Dysautonomia and are biplolar. In my opinion these play off one an other which makes it all worse. My older son is doing fine in college with his fish oil. That is all I require also. My daughter is a challenge and I wish I had some answers for her. Her room is a mess. She is so up and down and no energy. She just started small doses of Lamictal. I am afraid of side effects for her. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Hi jd, I can relate to your daughter, regarding the lamictal I was also afraid of some of the side effects the doctor had told me could occur, but at the same time he explained to me that the reason doctors usually start patients in very small doses is exactly to avoid these possible side effects, I am pretty prone to side effects, and in my case, the way he started me on lamictal was marvelous and did not get any side effects, if your daughter follows the instructions as should, I don't think she would have much problem, although we all are different, hopefully she won't get any, I am now on 200mg of lamictal and he just started me on 250mg, for 2 weeks, and then afterwards I ll start with 300mg...as I saidm the key is going up slowly......hope this works for her.....

my room is always a mess. and im so up and down i get depressed alot and stay in my room

i dont like arguing so i try and stay away from that.

you know you have bipolar and so dose your daughter.

so just walk away.

and scream from inanother room,

just get it out.

but you also have to listen.

and let her know you love her and wanna help her and help yourself.

i didnt like the lamictial it made me really fat.

and seroquel and all that other stufff just mad me mad.

try herbal stuff.

thers alot of people that believe it or not deal with herbs for a living.

you and your daughter should do it./

i do an herb but its not the right one.

but thats what helps me deal with anger and stress and helps me find me medum.

Tiffany,

Thanks for your imput. That is the advice my daughter suggests...she says, "Mom walk away and let me calm down!" I have learned to do that and now things are better. She is keeping her room very nice now that she has matured more and I have more wisdom. We each take an anti-anxiety meds just when we need them and I continue my fish oil and things are way better. God bless you!

My son is 15 and was diagnosed about 6 years ago with OCD but now his counselor really feels like we might be looking at bipolar.  We have been very unhappy with his psychiatrist lately so we are switching and hoping this new one will really take time to diagnose appropriately.

Any way in the midst of it all I am trying to research and gather info on bipolar and what I can do to help my son.  He is not actively participating in counseling (doesn't want to talk about things - especially the anger and rage he has been showing).  I noticed you mentioned fish oil - I take this for cholesterol is it known to assist with bipolar as well?  How much?  Are there any other herbal or vitamin kinds of things I should know about or web sites to look at to direct me on foods and such that would benefit him?

hi there - I can almost guarantee that these people are all low thyroid.  A simple daily dose of thyroid medication - desiccated thyroid is the best - should cure this.  But it needs to be a good strong dose - 180 mg a day at least.  Particularly for depression - it's the thyroid that controls all this!  and children really need lots of iodine every day right from when they're babies well into the teens - that will give them a strong healthy thyroid and eliminate bioplar and depression as we are seeing here.
