Hi there. This is my first time going to a bipolar website let along registering after being diagosed over a year ago. Like many you've heard, I'm sure, I have felt so alone. My doctor advised me to visit and join. Thank goodness...

Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 08:31 AMHi tabby
I have been through all of the test from my Pdr and realize there aren't any blood, etc. tests out there. I was more curious about the brain testing. I'm glad you asked if anyone knew of any tests or experienced an MRI or CT and if that was productive.
Thanks again
Good luck

Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 04:59 PMHi Irisheyes
Wow, it's great to hear from someone! Thanks so much for the comment. For the last year, I think I was in denial, just in the last few weeks have I really been getting up to speed on this. It is frightening some of the things I read however, educational. I've never had to stay anywhere, that must be so tough on you and your family.
Before you were diagnosed and now that you know the signs, etc., do you look back and see that yes those things that were happening or I did were all signs of this but I just didn't know it?
Have you read any good books you can recommend?
Thanks!

As far as I am aware there aren't any "medical, blood, urine, etc.. tests" that absolutely and specifically diagnose "you have Bipolar".
Some places are doing research by scanning the brains of those diagnosed - you know MRIs and CAT scans and such but that's only to determine what areas of the brain the disorder affects and effects.
But a test where you go into a phyisicians office, pee in a cup, or roll up your sleeve? Uhm, no.
Most good pdocs that diagnose will indeed run medical tests "to rule out any other possibilities that would enduce the symptoms", take your medical and mental history, write down all the medical and mental drugs you are on and have taken, and then speak with you about what is going on when....
If anyone out there does know of a specific test or series of medical tests - by all means, please post and let us know, seriously.
