I have been married for 20 years to a sweet man. I knew from the beginning that he was not like the other men I met. He seemed childlike..was completely addicted to paintball and was always looking for that "high". He also had anxiety problems which worsened over the years. Increasingly I began to notice irrational and odd behaviors. Every 4 years he threatened to leave me...said he loved me but could not be with me. Last October he had what appeared to be a severe mental breakdown. This man who adored me said he nolonger loved me and left to live with his parents (thankfully there is no other woman). He morphed into a strange being..my loving caring husband turned mean, angry and hostile blamed me for all his problems and said the cruelest things to me. He was put on antidepressants and it made him worse. Finally, upon seeing a psychiatrist, he was diagnosed as having bipolar 2. He was placed on Depatoke ...I have started to see improvement.
Throughout this whole idea I always told him I loved him and that I was there for him. He said that his goal is to come back home but that he is "not there yet". Can I ask those suffering from this disease what else i can do for him? Are there any good books out there for spouses. I would appreciate your help as there is no support group in my area.
