I dropped seroquel last night and added geodan 40mgs.  I discussed the benefits and the risks with my pdoc.  I did not sleep at all last night or this morning.  It is 10:35pm and I need to get to bed.  I was told by the nurse today that I could take the ambien cr.6.25. Hey I have no problem with discussing my meds here with BipolarConnect.  I do expect some feedback.  Like John McManamy made the statement in one of my questions which I got a good response and appreciated it about weightgain and setting me up for diabetes.  I have been giving this a thought and seroquel is a big one for that.  I have high cholesterol, triglycerides, weightgain of over 15lbs. and don't want to get diabetes so I am trying this out.  I will list the side effects if I get them as I go.
Gee, I wish I knew what John McManamy was on.  It is a puzzle cause he never said but he does pretty good at his.  I know also that he states he is not a doctor, etc. too so I am not taking his advice but appreciated it due to I had been thinking of that anyway. By the way antipsychotics are about the only meds that keep bipolar under control the best but I have never had a psychosis.  Your opinion out there means alot to me also.  Goodnite!

Susan...Mood stabilizes and antipsychotics both work well for bipolars.  I take a mix of Lithium, Lamictal and Abilify.  Geodon and Abilify are in the same family of second generation (atypical) drugs.  Abilify has recently been approved for depression as well.  It is NOT a weight gainer, and side effects are minimal, at least for me.

Pdocs sure have their work cut out for them when it comes to meds.  Every person's body chemistry is different, AND each person's chemistry changes from time to time.  So it's difficult for pdocs to find the right "cocktail" that works all of the time.

We should not look at what meds another person takes and expect it to work for us - everyone's different.  Abilify works for me, it may not work for you.  If you are interested in trying it, and if geodon doesn't make a difference, by all means speak to your doctor about it.

Hello Hey Jude

I understand via the TV ad that Abilfy is for acute mania.

Is this your situation ? I was not aware of using it for depression.

*** I realize meds are individually effective , just curious ***

Thank You

Yes, abilify is definitely being used for depression.  You can read about it on-line:  "abilify and depression" should get you some good info.  I take abilify to help allieviate the "highs".  Hope this clarifies things for you.  Enjoy your weekend.
