peer to peer training for BP support

By ocie Sunday, December 16, 2007

Does anyone know of this program and where I can get involved with peer to peer training. I have emailed national and local mental health sites that offer this but I have had no response. I really want to this so it is imporatnt for me to find a training program in Michigan. If anyone knows of one of these please contact me.

Thanks

Actually what takes place here are peer to peer interactions. I know of no expert in the field that actually respond other than us that have dealt with it most of our lives and can give advice from real experiences of what works and what usually doesn’t.

I think the best part of using this site is if all you feel like doing is venting…knock your socks off and type away to your hearts content. There is usually someone that can relate to your feelings and frustrations.

Are you looking for employment in that area or just some one on one in person type of training?

I am actually looking to just be involved. My education is in this field but I am not looking for a job. I want to volunteer my time & experience to help others like me.

Check your local paper for support groups and when they meet under “Events going on”, Upcoming events” or “Social Events for the week”. I would also check out the NAMI website and find your local chapter in your area. If it were me, I would do a in person visit with the folks there and they could help direct you in the right direction.

I doubt most agencies including NAMI would respond to your emails, most would end up in the spam box.

Thanks but DNSA did respond and will let me know when a training is. Yes I know of all my local support groups.

Thanks anyway

 Try NAMI.

Hi Ocie,

Not sure if this would pertain to Michigan, but Joe Buck is talking about a peer to peer suppport mentorship he is working on, in this posting.

Hope this helps!
