My husband of 10yrs , also BP is struggling w/porn on the internet. I know thru research etc., that an intense sex drive is part of their illness. Thank goodness, he does not go out or feel the need to have an affair. But he tells me, I don't give him "enough". Ok out there in the world - what is exactly "enough"? I used to have an ex who never wanted sex, now I have one on overdrive! Help.
not all with Bipolar are hypersexual .. and many with Bipolar do not cheat and/or have numerous affairs, or become obsessed with Porno even if they do have the hypersexuality symptom when in a manic phase
folks are different and Bipolar is different with each folk
and while hypersexuality is a common mania symptom amongst those who have Bipolar Disorder... it's not with each and every person who has the disorder
that being all said... for those who do struggle with the symptom... it tends to be associated with mania and if your husband has developed a strong inclination to Porn, etc... recently
a question would reasonably be... is he taking his meds as prescribed?
I am 48 years old, and recently diagnosed with Bi-Polar disorder.
I do not know anything about the disorder exept that an exuberant amount of my family is also clinically diagnosed.
As for hypersexual tendancies, let's just say I may know the reason that I have 12 aunts and 1 uncle on my dad's side (2 actually, one passed away before I was born). Every one of my aunts has no less than 3 children, My uncle has over 9 that he is aware of. I have three before getting "Snipped".
I was in the U.S. navy, and have been pretty much all over the planet. I can remember that for the most part, my priority when reaching shore on liberty, was sex. I did not want to be unfaithful, but the feeling was just too overwhelming to ignore. I would get feelings of hostility if these "Erges" weren't met. I seem to be a little better on the Med's that i am taking now, but the idea of sex and the feelings of being "Outside" myself still feel tangible.

I do agree with the connection. The question is what came first the chicken or the egg.
It is quite possible, that the Sexual Overdrive Syndrome accentuates the Bi Polar condition.
Please answer.
