Hello and welcome to this site.  It's an awesome place.  I have met so many BP friends and learned some much information about this disorder here.  I also take Lamictal (300 mg/daily).  I use to take it with Abilify and Prozac but I stopped taking all my medication for a 6 week period about 3 months ago ... which was a really stupid thing to do.  My doctor put me back on just the Lamictal about a month ago and recently I have begun feeling really sad and irritable again.  Also, I feel disconnected from people around me with really intense feelings of lonliness.  My friends either can't relate to real depression (they say, "I know what it's like to be sad." and I'm like, "No you don't know what it's like to not want to get out of bed for a week, or wish you could die to make all the saddness go away....") or they are just too busy with their on hectic college, work, social lives to indulge or include me.  I'm 19 years old and I was officially diagnosed with BP 2 years ago following (the first of many) suicide attempts.  My best friend died suddenly and all I do is think about her and wish I could be with her.  So, the Lamictal .... I'm not so sure how good that's working for me.  Hope you have better success on it.  Good luck to you.    Rosebud

Hello Bluecamomile!

I, too, am on 300 mg of Lamictal, 150 mg in the morning and 150 mg in the evening.  I have not taken Lamictal, only, but I can tell you how it has worked for me, in conjunction with other psych meds.  I also take Cymbalta, 60 mg, once a day, in the morning.  This combination of psych meds has really decreased the pain I suffer with migraines. Within the past year or so, I have been taking Seroquel, 600 mg in the evening, and 100 mg in the morning.  I can also take an additional 100 mg, for anxiety.  So far, so good.  To help with my insomnia, I take Trazodone 100 mg, at bedime.  This combination of meds is working very well for me.  I know that some people think I am crazy for taking so many psych meds.  It seems that I have a high tolerance for drugs of any kind.  What would be therapeutic levels of meds for me, would put many people into a coma!

Now, on top of all these medications, I am also taking Kadian and Morphine Sulfate, for extreme pain, following a recent surgery on my right leg/hip.  With this combination of meds, I am pretty much "out of it", most of the time.

I wish you the very best in your struggles with bipolar.  I have been diagnosed as bipolar I, back in June, 1982.  As you might imagine, I have taken just about every depression/mania medication over the past 27 years.  I have seriously considered suicide, but I have not actually carried through with any of my suicidal thoughts and ideations.

You take care and try to be strong, for both your sake and the sake of any friends and relatives you might have.  Just remember how much you are loved by your family, friends and, yes, even you.

With warmth and affection.

I am 49 and have been on Lamictal for 1 yr, 100mg daily. I also am on Nortriptyline, Celexa and Xanax. On my three drugs I was still having too many depressive episodes and my Pdoc didn't agree that I am Biplar2. I forced his hand to give me another med for Bipolar & he choose Lamitcal. Since adding this I am soo much happier and my emotions are not going up and down everyday. I actually feel "normal". My three meds were for clinical depression and general anxiety disorder. I would go into a rage over the smallest or dumbest things. Those same things I am now able to handle & deal like a normal person would. I know it is due to the Lamictal. As most of us would say keep working to get on the right medication(s) for you and maybe look for a second opinion.

Welcome to this site and good luck with getting on the right medication.

Hi,

I am a 46 yr old female that was on Lamictal (generic) for bi-polar disorder.  I started at 25mg and was titrated up 25mg every 10th day.  I began taking this new drug on 3/23, when uped to 75mg I developed a severe, severe allergic reaction to this drug and had to be taken by ambulance to the ER.  Folks, although I don't discount this drug working for bi-polar, PLEASE!! PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE BLACK BOX WARNING OF SJS.. y pharmacist forgot to tell me!!!(I got SJS from this drug and had the most intense burn like lesions, flu like symptons and continue to do so till this day), 4/9/09.  Please make yourself aware of SJS and go immediately to the ER room if you develop an allergic reaction to this drug.  I am currently in talks with a lawyer who is considering suing the manufacturer of this drug.

I hope I was helpful, not to scare anyone but just to make people aware of SJS.  If it happened to me, it could happen to anyone.. pls visit:  www.sjsupport.com for future reading, this may save a life or educate those that don't know about this.

Stay well all, I will update you on my recovery..
