For many of us bipolars (especially of the rapid-cycling variety such as myself), we live our days with the understanding that the mind is seldom a "still" presence: it is constantly in a state of activity...for better (we often think when we are in the throes of manic euphoria) or for wo...

Thanks Becky, I will! I'm very impressed with the new layout here at BipolarConnect.com; it is incredibly user-friendly and inviting for all to use! Keep up the excellent work, I'm even going to do a plug for it on my "regular" blog soon!

In high school my best friend and I were the mad hatter (me) and the march hare for a school play.  I have since enjoyed thinking of myself in this light; I also love Lewis Carroll immensely.  I appreciate you emphasizing one of the upsides of bpd, at least for me (lately I can't think of anything but the negatives.)  I have always been sure of my uniqueness and I know that is my well of creativity.  When I am too intense, one way or the other, I use writing to help empty me out or help pass the time.  I have discovered a little as I grow older that I am able to turn this self-absorbed creativity into sharable creativity--and that really excites me.

Last night I watched Bill Engvall's special on Com. Central and if you've seen it, you know that he likes to throw out unusual thoughts that pop into his head.  (no comment on his mental status!) He has a unique blend of everyday humor filled with bizarre tangents.  I thought I was going to pee my pants.  I like to think I also can add my fingerprint to the world--not in a sympathy-draining way, but as a welcome change from the humdrum.

    It's nice to be reassured--thanks!

I wish I had the presence of mind to know this before I killed so many brain cells over the years.  That mental overactivity is one of the main reasons I self-medicated so often.

Myself i try to do something constructive it's getting cold where i live so i'm refinishing some old kitchen cabinets. They had been painted so i'm scrapping off the old paint filling in the dents and then sand them soomth and repaint them. This is very relaxing to me and it keeps my mind occupied it's also cheap and inexpensive. As i see if my mind is rapid cycling then i put it to use at times i'll sit and sharpen knives with a honing set i have for that. So i try to turn all of that energy into something i need to get done or somethng that needs to be fixed. But it drives me crazy when i start the cycling especially when i try and go to sleep my mind never stops so i write songs while trying to sleep it works. But what you are doing is also great anything to keep the mind occuppied.
